10 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELING TO PUNTA CANA.

10 Things to know before traveling to PUNTA CANA.

I'm sure that Before travelling, you have do your research and read a lot about  Punta Cana as your travel destination but didn’t find many of the things that ill tell you in this post. Here’s what you should know…

1. PUNTA CANA IS also bavaro, cortecito, los corales is also Punta cana?!

The name Punta Cana is actually used for the whole region ranging from Bayahibe to Cap Cana. At least when it comes to all the travel agencies or tourist. But Punta Cana is in fact, only the part around Cap Cana. So if you are in Bavaro, Cortecito, Los corales it may be confusing around how the division of regions, cities and towns works there haha! But don't worry that's also Punta Cana in term of tourism and is the active location around the area.

2. RENTING A CA
R vs. taxi?

Taxis are really expensive in Punta Cana! you can paid $20 per drive even for 5km. But paying 40$ a day for short rides doesn't sound good! I really recommend you find a location close to the beach or rent a car to get around. You’ll have more freedom and will be charged almost the same. Also the are the motoconchos you can read about them in my last post named motobikes in Punta Cana.

3. is ok not to speak spanish?

You may be surprise that almost nobody speaks English. You may thinks as because it’s a tourist place and many Americans and Canadians go on vacation there, people will speak English. But no, you may met somebody that could speak basic English but ill be an experience that will make you appreciate the proper communication! So you should probably learn a bit of basic Spanish or have an offline dictionary on your phone.

4. is TRAFFIC good?

People drive with no rules! Maybe C R A Z Y is the word to used … you have to pay attention to both sides before switching the lane. nobody respect the speed limits, you may see moto Conchos with 3 people on them. Don't be surprise is you see People drive without number plates or lights, just be ready to see people driving with no rules at all. So don't blinked and watch out when you drive!

5. SECURITY

You'll may be surprised to see guards everywhere. But don't worry you'll get -used-to. There are security guards may holding shotguns it doesn't mean is dangerous is just the classic Dominican style for guards on the street. Punta Cana is one of the safest areas in the Dominican Republic.

6. PRICES & TIPS

In general, going to a restaurant may be ranging from 20-40$ USD for 2 people( drinks included). I will talk more about the restaurants vs. budget in another post. The Dominican Republic has a tipping culture. the salary of waiters is low so a good service should included a good tip but is up to you. The ITBIS. It’s some sort of tax in Dominican Republic so don’t worry about it if you see it in the receipt, they charged 18% of tax in most of the restaurants and 10% of service, so check the menu well to see is the taxes are included in the price or ask to the waiter before ordering.

7. you should HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE

Having a travel insurance is always a good idea. Make sure you have one, cuz in case anything happen you may be charged only to see a doctor USD$400 or more. So as you can see it’s quite expensive and you will probably not regret having travel insurance!

8. VACCINATION

You have to get Hepatitis and Tetanus vaccinations before travelling to Punta Cana. Go talk to your doctor about what exactly you may need more.

9. Adventure Abounds

Punta Cana adventures include catamaran trips, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing, surfing, banana boats, deep sea fishing, windsurfing, kiteboarding, water skiing, parasailing, saona island, catalina island, fishing tours and much more.

In addition to water recreation, Punta Can offers some adventurous excursions that will encourage you to get out of your comfortable sun lounger.

Try to avoid pirates' sellers on the beach, people that will come to you on the beach selling tours may not be a good idea, they will charged you more and may not be as safest as if you go to the correct place.

9. GOLFING

Punta Cana is the destination for golfing, Dominican Republic’s more than two dozen incredibly scenic courses, including ones designed by Pete Dye, are sure to make you think you are on an epic adventure.

Courses like La Cana or Corales in Punta Cana offer dramatic cliffs and ocean views that will leave lasting memories no matter if you shoot well over par. There's plenty options for golfing in Punta Cana, cocotal, Hard rock hotels like a lot of where to choose.
